A bagpipe bag, made 'of
glove=tanned: leather, must be
. thick, yet .pliable:: After..ex-
tensive ' experinnentation. Mr.
McQuillan came up 'with ills.;
own secret' treatmenf for the
leather.
The 'Ieather. must be able to

'breath. I If not, the reeds will
become blocked,
The fame of McQuillan bags

piping fraternityand-he :soon •
found himself with orders for
bags for individual pipers and,
bands. ` He developed an un-
' proved design of chanter. and

'McQuillan found it increasing-
ly: difficult 'to find the right
leather.
Ile ' has made bags from
goat. skin,sheep. skin, horse ..
hide. and pony, hide but he
is• still in pursuit of the ideal
leather., As an experiment, he
ordered kangaroo skin' from.,;
Australia but says it did not • :.
