The Act which replaces all rov-
incial welfare programs except the
.municipally administrated General,
Welfare Assistance Act. takes ad-
. vantageof the Canada Assistance

errinlent will reimburse 505 of a
provinces welfare expenditures,

'person is defined as anyone with. a
" major physical or mental impair-
ment that is likely.to continue fore
a prolonged period
The Act takes the principle 'that
where a recipient lis a rnernbet of
a family .the needs of the house- •
hold as.a whole will be•considered,.
• Present. welfare recipients will
not have to re -apply for°aid under
• the new Setup, •
Three new categories' will be el-
igible for assistance:
(1) The wife of an old age pens-
ioner if she. is •in need and 60 or
more.
(2) The. wife of a recipient of
former recipient of provincial wel-
fate allo*atrces if she is 60:or has.
dependant children; •
•
(3) A disabled• persbn•living, in. a
home for the retarded.
For. 'a •single. person, the act pro-
vides.a`monthly allowanceof up
to $105, , and• a minimum if he'has
no•:outside .income of $8§..,4V single
person 'could earri up to $24. and
still receive. the maxiMint :allow
once.
A :blind or disabled person will' ..
receive 'an :additional $10..
transportation grant each month.
