.• Express1.houghts 4n fed. Dairy policy.
Th.
e. 1$67-68.Federal Dairy Policy •
came in/or another discussion at.
.a recent Board Of 'Directors meet- .
ing of the Bruce County Fede'ati,on
of Agriculture. Ken McKinnon; a
director•on the Ontario Milk Mar
keting Board, reported that even
after numerous .delegations protest
ing..the new dairy policy. tOHon.
J.J. ;Greene, Federal. Minister ,of
,Agriculture, nothing has been
gained,. Greene has stated
• a
that $120 million has been locat-
_ . ;1
,ed for the ,1967-68'dairy year and
nothing further will be forthcoming
•In explaining the dairy, policy, Mr.
McKinnon said that some, fluid
producers will be taking.less than:..
industrial producers. He also poin
ted out 'that, a new producer
enteringdairy„would have no,quota
and would receive no subsidy on•
his milk 'as he must 'obtain a quota
first. The policy also.continues to
discriminate against the crearn •
'producer as there is. not sufficient
price incentive for fa.t,to encourage
such producer to stay in business.
Mr. McKinnon went on to report,
that'from all indications, Mr.
Greene is not' willing to accept that
the policy imposes any hardships.. on.
producers and that most producers
are accepting the policy. Members
preent at the ,meeting stated that;
such •i's not the case andproducers
are• calling for action. 'Cameron..,
MacAuley, President, called . upon.
every townshipdirector to organize
a campaign of letter writing to:
J.J.„ Greene with producers.
expressing their thoughts on the
program. Mr. MacAuley in calling;
for. the, campaign reported, that the
.Bruce. County Milk Committee has
also voiced opposition to the dairy -
policy and that strong protests
have been'made through' local
Members of Parliament. '.'Not
every pr:oducer can go to Ottawa
but everyone can write a letter.
and demand a reply” stated Mr.
MacAuley .' He went on to say, that
he hoped such a campaign would
prove to .Mr. Greene that producers ing,,Harold Wolfe of Dobbinton.
are not satisfied. "If changes to the
dairy policy are not forthcoming
following this campaign,' Mr..
MacAuley said, "further actions
must be. taken ,by all miik produc-
ers in this province to' bring about
a policyin line with: the economi--
;cal, production of milk."
In other. business , Mr: MacAuley
reported thatthe committee' set Up
tostudy beef marketing has been
'making inquiries: andthe general
*opinion seems to be .that a change
is required from the present
method. of selling. The Ontario
'Federation of Agriculture. has been
meetiTg With the Ontario Beef
Irnprovernent Association; and the
Farmers Union to come up. with a
suitable, solution satisfactory to all
three groups. The Bruce County
Committee feel i: wise to wait un-
til the report and decision is hand•
ed down from OFA on their
findings before action, is taken at
county level. The general opinion
expressed among'. the Board of Dir='
ectors.was that regardless.of'who
brings out a beef marketing plan,:
that providing it is • a reasonable
one we should support it. •.
Also on the topic of beef, market -
said we :shouldvoice strong
criticism of the outrageous statis-
tics and predictions, for beef pro-
duction that the Canada Departm-
ent of. Agriculture •is.:putting out -,

'!They were so far out of reason;
last year and, this year doesn't
appear to be any better .
Mr. MacAuley reported that .a
.vote will be held this. June on .an.
Egg Marketing Plan.. In
outlining the proposed plan, he.•
said'xhatfrom all appearances it
is a sound- and reasonable plan and
goes much further than many other,
existing.plans.; having production ,
controls , setting of price „and
Controlling mark-up of product;.As
the, plan becomes better known, • .,
the Federation should be prepared
'to give'it_ support, said Mr. Mac- •
I such •a• program could be initiated
on a county basis: Several memb-
ers said that sudh a program has
been sadly needed for years and if
adopted by OFA, Bruce should be
in it. •
The date for the Semi -Annual.
meeting has beend, set for Friday, .'
June 2nd in the Park Head. Hall
commencing at 7:00 p.m .with :
a supper. Program content is to, be

has offered a booth: at the :
Teeswater Fall Fair'; to the Bruce
. County Federation :to put on a dis-
play,of implement and .machinery
parts that,have proven.defectiv:e
or didn't come up; to standards.
Such a display would also have a
brief history on the broken or
defective part and what. it :meant
in lost dollars and hours to the
farmer.' .A considerable amount of.
interest was, shown in such a dis-
play among the directors. •All
cidentS of breakage, poor work-
