He served 'eight years as a township councillor before taking over the office of Reeve five years ago., He is just commencing his sixth term' as. Reve .. He has .also been very 'active in county workand. just "completed, his third : year on the county road committee, serving as chairman. in 1966..this past year he has been Very -active on the commit tee which'arranged the Interna tional Plowing Match at Seafortb. Tuesday's election as Warden came by acclamation to Mr. MacKenzie. No one opposed him' and this can be considered as a% fine tribute to the Ashfield Town- ship , Reeve . Mr, and Mrs. Tom Sullivan 0! Toronto were, visiting with, Barry' and Dianne. Hackett for the week- end and their 4 -1./2 -year-old twin sons,' Mark andr'Todd' were ideal playmates for 5 -year-old Bobby Hackett: Barry and 'Tom had been 'making the "rounds of the farm on a Skip• -Do :and the youngsters had been play- ing outside •,Todd had•come into. the house for a time and had later gone out to play, ' again•,. seeking out his two playmates. • The first cause' for alarm came when the two Men came back from the Ski -Do ride and heard young Todd 'crying;; Todd had broken through theice on,;the creek located nearby into 'about two feet of water, buthad'man= aged: to Claw his way back onto the bank and when found was wet, :cold and scared •.Asked where they other, boys• were ,' he' did not know and the .nten immediately thought that all three had.. fallen. in the creek. ; Barry and Tbm ran' to the 'gee( waded in and started breaking up ` the ice around the hole which .Todd; had created.;when he fell• in. •. They believed the boys were unded the 'ice;, and after futile 'searchin. g tracks which they had created!. and thoughthe could make out small footprints, t' He followed the marks to the back of the farm .,. and eventually beard the.:young sters before' he could.see them, They were by.this time into the farm of Alex Hackett and had become lost. It was about '3/4 of an hour be- fore the youngsters were located' and needless.' to say, there were some tears of, joy shed when the 'pair were brought -back to the ;house on the Ski -Do.
