bets from" St.Helens-girls home-
making club, their two . junior com-
panions,. their three leaders and
their hostess who.spent the weekend
"at the Gammie Cottage at Amber-

-.Rain, wind, cold weather and -
more rain, interspersed with the
odd ray 'of sunshine, made the wee
end outing an interesting one to
say the least. • • •

Members and three of their leaders

Gammie and her friend Joanne

trucked. the .girls to the beach on
Saturday after spending consider-
able time preparing the equipment
This summer has had a fine rec-.
ord of warm, sunny weekends and
it was no great surprise. to beach ,
folk that they could -not be blessed •
with. this weather forever. Before
the girls ,got tucked into their
beds on Saturday night, the rain'
came. and'the truck tarpaulin
failed to prove effective against
the storm. So, most of the girls
were brought ,indoors., and slept
on the cottage floor for the first
'night. Sunday night 'was a;repetit-
ion of Saturday, weatherwise,: but
despite= the continuing rain,, the
spirits were not dampened ,at, all ,
only the bedding: •
The group remained until Mori -
day afternoon•when they returned
home.
The youngsters enjoyed lots of.
swimming, boating, hiking.
dancing and boy watching. Isabel,
Elaine,. Jennie and Grace learned
how to sleep a family of 26 under
one roof with one washroom and
we are sure that the 4-11 leaders
training course does not include '
this. The foursome learned a few
new dance steps and from what
we saw of the outing, they were
pretty good sports under trying
circumstances.
