JOHN R, LANE
John Rutherford ,Lane, a resident
of Kinloss Township for' most of
his life and a Servant of the mun-
icipality for 33 years as clerk,
died at Winaham and District
Hospital on Wednesday, July '20th
at the age of 92. Mr. Lane had
not been in good health for•sorne
• time. , •
Mr. Lane was born on January •
26th, 1975 :at Lanes store in Ash-
field Township, He was the son
of John .Lapeand Eliza Rutherford
and•his-father was storekeeper at
Linesville arthar.tirne, His
father was a native of. Devon,.
,• England , 'His parents later gave
Up the storekeeping and,ment to.
'Algoma where. they purchased '•
400 acres. An attempt to organize
a school 'at A lgorna. failed , and
•.because of this Mr. Lane's father
decided to return to this area. He
.purchased the home farm on the'
• 14th of .Kinloss which is now oCc
upied, by Mr. lane's brother, .
Malcolm. This was in 1891 when
J..R." was six years old. .• •
Here Mr. Lane, the eldest of:
the family, and his brothers and
sisters grew up. A year before his
marriage in.1906. he.purchaied his
place.to the west.of the home
• .place from Torn Athinson. He
later purchased 50 more acres'
from, his. brotherHugh., who. had •
.the farm west of his,' to give him:
150 acres. . . • •
. In 1906 'he married:Elizabeth •
"Libbie" Malcolm 'ofKinloss who
• paised away in. September of 1955.
In the Fall of 1947. Mr. and Mrs.:
Frank MauId'en and Keith came • •
from northern Ontario and took
.over the farm and M. Lane had .
continued to live with thern.sincf

• Mr. Lane is survived by a family
.of two daughters, Mrs. Frank. •
(Elizabeth) Maulden, known -to
all her friends as Bessie and.
Mrs. Arthur (Jean) Phillips of •
Fonthilf.. Two grandchildren,
survive Keith Maulden and. •
Peggy
Mr. Lane was -one of a funny
of seven boys and two girls. His
sister Mrs. Dave "Elizabeth",.Alton
by 'a first' marriage, is deceased.

second marriage, only two broth-
ers survive, -Malcolm Lane of
Kinloss and Rev. Andrew Lane,
retired and living at Tharnesford.

MacDonald are' deceased.
The funeral service was held on'
Sararday. „ July 23 at 2:j0
at the MacKenzie Memorial
Chapel in Lucknow with burial in
South Kinloss Cemetery. .
Rev McKinney conducted
the service. Mrs. Gordon Mont-
