Flora Durni is'.retiring to care •
for her father; Robert J.-Durnin •
of Dungannon who isin his. 93rd
year. She•plans to continue work
on :the familywtr:ee as:a Centennial
project.
Flora. M. Durnin was born in
Ashfield Township in Huron County
She attended ,High' School , at
Blyth and Goderich, and graduated
from Macdonald Institute in 1927.
She interned as a dietitian at the ,
Western. Hospital in }928;. ••
In 1929 Miss Durnifi began work
as a County Home Economist with
the :Extension Blanch, of 'the Ontar-
.io Department of Agriculture:, She
has served as Home Econontist for
the counties of Lambton, Perth . '
Dufferin, ;Wellington, Huron,;
Bruce Grey and Manitoulin Island
„Ai Homemaking Club work devel-
oped,. her territory was gradually
;reduced from six counties to one
in 1960 Grey County where
she had. worked from :.1934 to 1966.
She was Home Economist for the
counties of Huron and Brnce from
1929. to 1948. Flora Durnin check-
ed 18,000 project completions in
4-H Homemakingclubs in her
territory since the beginning of
club work'in 1935. '
She, worked from her car and her
home at Dungannon until 1949 '
When shed, as located at Markdale
aud given space in the office . of
the Ontario Department of Agri-
culture. Transportation was
provided by` the' Agricultural
Representatives`until' 1934, when •
she purchased a 1929 Chevrolet..
This cost $235 ;
When•HomeEconomists served
a number. of counties, junior work
was• given priority.' It consisted
-of-Homemak4ngelubs,: Junior :
Institute and Junior , Farmer work,
one and three month winter schools
and school fairs. When the
territories, were reduced , the
Home Economists were given more
responsibility/for.promoting and
e s services
organizing extension vices n i s r for
women.' Senior projects were
revived in 1957. Additional
projects were a Housing survey in
1943, and the Farm and Horne
Survey in 1959. , •
In 1953.Flora M. Durnin
'accompanied the Ontario Junior
Farmer' Delegates to Great Britian.
In the -same year, she was honored
by. Grey County Women's. 0
Institutes. • They namedthe
newly established 4-H ,Homemak-
ing Club Scholarship the Flora

Elora`Durnin has taken three
:.extension courses at, the Federated
Colleges, Guelph, two Bishop'
sewing courses, onesummer.
course at Teacher's College,

Macdonald College, Quebec.
She is a life member of Macdon •
