A large garage, which doubled'
a storage shed', burned to the
ound at the supper hour on Mon-
y .night at the farm of Henry.
ettnan. The Drennan farm is
cated on the 9th of Ashfield,
ose to Highway 21, in the 'Kintai)
ingsbridge area..
The garage sat about 20 feet
f the north-east' corner of the
ennan homeland fortunately the
ind was blowing to the north
ay from the house. A 'wind
owing to•the west would. no .
ubt have destroyed the house
d possibly the barn on the Drenn-
an farm.
The'Drebnan. family lost their
home by firea few years ago at
Christmas•time and have'since re-
placed it°with a new house.
Cause of Monday's Outbreak is
not definitely known but itwduld
seem very likely that lightning
might have struck the'shed. Theme
area experienced a severe .electt-
rical storm about this time.
At 5.20 p.m.. the truck was
placed in the garage with no sign
• of trouble, and the family had
their supper. It was abouts 6.40.
when the fire was noticed, and
by that time the garage•was a,
mass of flames. Henry at first.
thought it was fog drifting past
the house window , • and upon
checking, found,the fire. He
succeeded in getting the truck 6ut
of the garage, but a hay baler,.
grain auger, motors and numer-
ous small tools and parts that •
would be stored in a farm shed
were burned. •
Lucknow Fire Depatment,res-
• ponded and stood by to protect
the house arid other buildings.
Windows in the house were broken
by the heat of the fire,.,
