The banquet was associated °with
the regular. aeeting .of the' Lions
Club and was attended by, all ••
• minor hockey players in the comm
unity with their dad or their. "dad
for the evening." 204 sat down to
the turkey banquetcatered to by
,the Lucknow Catholic. Women's,
League. The .lone female guest
at the banquet was Mary Jardine
of Lucknow who has tended the
goal for the Peewees during the
season. ' '

Paul's on the Wings and: the Ham-
ilton Red Wings. In his opening
remarks; Paul expressed his happ-
iness : at being . at the LuckrioW
Minor hockey banquet and stated
that he. would . have, been' disapp-
ointed if he had not been;asked to
sit in with the minorr teams where
,he learned his hockey asp, a:yyouth.
Paul thanked the: Lions"`Club`. for
their telegram of well wishes dur-
ing the playoffs, and the :comm-
unity for their telegram "which
took him 2 1/2 hours to read.
Commenting onthe series, he
'said Detroit -just "didn't get the
breaks" and said that the Detroit
. . team felt right upto the last : over-
time thatthey could take the
championship. He described the
overtime goal that wan the cup
for Montreal .as, "one of those '
things". He said the play seemed
an ordinary one with no cause for
concern until it slipped into the
:net.
The young Detroit speedster
paid.' tribute to, the parents and
coaches who are serving Lucknow .
:minor hockey at present and
who have served in the .pasta "It
is tremendous to.see their support
and. concern"• he said.
He said that during the winter
he follows local-sports;closely in
the Sentinel and marvels at the.
way Lucknow teams ,"witha local

Paul referred to the days when

ents in•their son's hockey careers,
,Paul paid tribute to his dad's
. encouragement and said he prob-
ably wouldn't have made it had
• it not been for his dad./ "You
had to be good with myLfathers"
he said. Garnet was sitting at the
head table and drew a big round
of applause from the 200 people
in the hail.. • •
Paul referred to the many inter-
ested :residents of the community
who were always ready to take car-
loads of hockey players and said,
'1 must have driven 30Ci0 miles
with Lloyd Ashton, and there are
many more who were always on
hand when transportation was
needed" : Paul respectfully re f err

and his willingness td transport
players. :.
In his closing remarks, 'Paul said.

Lucknow is producing hockey
players," he said.

Reeve-Joynt said he had been
contacted' by sports writer Red
Burnett of the Toronto Star who
had heard about the 'board fence
affair' and other controversy and'
that Mr. Burnett wasseeking some
background information .. MM. .
Joynt said .hequoted him the art
idle in last weeks Sentinel `to
enlighten him on the subject..
Referring to the painting of the
board fence, , the Reeve said that
the youth of Lucknow. were, tired
of having their community not
receive the .recognition it deserved
He said he hoped the future would
provide .Lucknow with another
player of the calibre of Paul who •

would go. down in. NHL History.' .

introduced the two young hockey
stars, Henderson and Doak, .and
was complimentaryin his remarks
about them, Of Paul Henderson,
Brent said that Sid Abel had once
told him that Paul had the;
makings of'a,star. .he was fast,
witty, brainy and had a•good shot.
Abel told him once Henderson hits
the 20 goals in a season mark, you
can expect him to come through •
with 20 to 3.0 goals in future. seas-

being driven across the bridge,
toward Chepstow.
Whenthe,truck, operated by Mr,
Thompson., was about half way
across the •92 -foot long, single-
lane span. it commenced to cave
in. Fortunately the collapse
'was gradual, ' and the river water.
into which the vehicles sin*. was
only, about a yard deep at the spot.
No injuries were sustained by the,
driver. -
It is stated by Mr. Thompson
that he suddenly felt the struct-.
ure. tilt to one. side. A. "moment
later the 25 tons of'vehicles
were descending to the river,. amid
a crashing of steel. /
Workmen took several hours,
"Monday evening,, to'extricate'the
:.vehicles from the twisted girders. •

Several enterprising "young men

duced the desired effect.

nical problems, so we decided
