The Federal government has
• recognized the fact that inthit
age of speed it is necessary that
a Canadian ndt only must have a
,. higher level of education but he
.• must keep, improving that know-
ledge. It has therefore entered
into an agreement with each Prov-
, ince to make..'existing.echicational
facilities available to adults in
different 'categories. • .
'Canadian Vocational Training
Programine 5 has been devised to .
train 'minks whO ctualify, in a•
skill and at the same 'time raise
.• their academic level. The pro-
gramme in Stratford is under the
direction. of the Board of Educa-
tion and Mr. C. L. Searcy is the
Cd -ordinator. The school •is held

Unemployed. means anyone who.
is not working a total of 24 hours
per week. This could be a, house-
wife who has never been ernploY7
ed. or a person who last employ-
rnent the day before application
for Progranone 5 is made. •
Various skills are being taught
for both men and women. Some
people think it would be too hard
to make the transition from nor-
mal life to one of study, however,
there have been 590 trainees who
have entered this course in Strat-
ford to date and 180 hasie'gradua-.
ted while another 79 have upgrad-
ed themselves by at least one gra-
de academically. • There are 79
still in school who will probably ,
.graduate but have at le.a.st, progress
ed die grade: Therefore 571; of
'the intake have learned to study •
all over again. The ages of train-
ees going through this school range
from 16 years to 68 year*.
The governments have also
ized that a person could not go •
frotn 13 to 2t,motiths'WithOtti auy,.
motley so they have made it poss-
ible to award subsiitende allow-
ances to trainees, who qualify'.
forthe time spent attending school.
The amounts vary io family cond-
itions and places of residence.
When the course is Completed.
the'trainee will receive a. certific-
ate'in both their skill and any ac-
ademic grade they have completed .
