Discuss Districl:
Ambulance service
The urgent' problem of ambul-
ante service forthis area came . .
under discussion at the April meet-
ing of the directors of the Wing -
ham and District Hospital. Board .'
• Chairman R. Be Cousins announced
that the executive committee of.
the board. would meet' with' the
seven ambulance operators in order
to seek . a solution'to • the problem.
Apparently most of • the present
operators want toget out of the
business since new regulations call
for the installation of;specialequ-,
ipment intheir vehicles, as well •
as the employment.of an attendant'
with special training.
The present Operators -contend
that ambulance service will be a
losing proposition and have asked
the hospital authorities to assume
responsibility for the maintenance
of such: service..
The hospitals, .however, are all":
operated' under regulations set. out
by the Ontario Hospital Services
Commission; which will not c"on-
sider the operation of an ambui
,ante ,as: an allowable cost.
.Thetmeeting will explore all
the possibilitiesand recognize;the;
necessity of a reliable,.ambulance
service''for Wingham and the :sure
ounding rural area served by this'

howl
We watched both CBC and NBC
simultaneously. It's triekey but
can be done by, carefully 'adjusting
the sound of both sets,. NBC was
running approximately four min
utes: behind regular play, due to
the fact -.that they were inserting,
one -minute cornmercials. While:
a co'mmercial.was being played...-.
action on the ice was being video-
taped'... After each commercial
the videotapes were put into
action and in this way those watch
ing NBC didn't miss any of the
plays, but' they were about, four.
.minutes behind:. CBC also inserts
commercial messages: -during the
change of players; between fate -
Offs, or.during fights.
I. added more confusion by
having CBL Radio on as•well, •
with Foster Hewitt calling the
play Fosterion radio and Bill on
TV called excellent. games. They
didn't seem to care .who won and
did superb jobs, "along with Brian
McFarlane,: who assisted Bill on
television. Comnient•ating.,for
.NBC Was : atrocious,' mainly' be=
c use the announcer didn't under-
stand the game.
Believe -me, the joint was really
rocking with two .TV' sets and a
radio going all on 'different. stet=
ions;:. Try it .sometime. You'll
appreciate . who is superior in tel=,'
