The basic complaints are (a) that
the student is required to study too
'many subjects; (b) that the content
of each of the.''subjects he• does
study is so'heavily charged with
factual material upon which he •
will be exatnined that hisapproach
to the subjectis narrow rather.

The original study committee
on grade' 13 , recommended the est-
ablishment of an extended system
of post -secondary ,education, The
Colleges of Applied Arts and Tech-
nology are intended to serve this
purpose. As, well the committee;
recommended,' with respect to the
number,.of grades that Ontario
changeto a 12 ,grade structure, It
was against this background that
the•Minister of Education made an
announcement outlining the Grade
13 examination procedure for the
immediate future.
In 1966 Grade 13 . Departmental
examinatiions have been -prepared.. •
as in the past. The examination
win bewritten between June: 6 'and'
24 accordingto a published sched-
ule and will be marked.centrally
byappointed examiners from the ..
secondary schools,; privateschools
and universities. The final 'mark..
will,consist. of 350/0 teacher's mark
and 65To examination mark.
