anything that would be a violation of thele. Those of our friends who
are already interested in this achene, may rest assured that they mill be

BRIfi1SH CATTLE MARK t;'kb.• HAVE. ENGAGED MISS ANDERSON,:LATE j
Cable advices from London and Liver-
pool, continue to be discouraging to
cattle and beef exporters. Cargoes of re-
frigerated beef are losing $3,000 and up-
ward per cargo, and American steers
are losing about $10 per head.
MONTREAL LIVE STOCK. •
MARKET
There were about 750 head of butch-
ers' cattle, 620 sheep and lands, and 7
calves offered at the East,Endlabattoir.
The market for cattle continues in a
demoralized state, and the drovers are
in the blues owing to the heavy losses
they're sustaining on their late sales.
Really prime beeves are scarce and be-
ing pretty high rates, but common cat,
tle are unsalable except at •rt`titrous
figures. Common dry cows and ordin-
ary steers which would weigh about
1,000 lbs. live weight or 500 lbs. dressed
beef, were sold at from $20 to $22 eaoh,
or from 2e to 21c per• pound, and'.pretty
good animals sold at about 3c 3o. • Lean
beasts and common bulls sold at about
lie per lb. Mr Jos Riohard• bought four
prime cattle for $205, forwhich be had
previously offered 4c per lb., live weight
He also bought two calves for $19.. The
prices of mutton critters were rather
lower, sheep selling at from $3 to $5.50
each, and lambs at from $2.25 to $4 eaoh
only very fine ones bringing over $3,50
each. Fat hogs are plentiful and' lower
in price, or. from 6c to 61c per lb.
