can remember the time when I
had never seen one of them.
Though 1 uui not engaged in
farming at present I will try to
tell those who aro so engaged
and ate troubled with this great
pest bow to get rid of them.
Several years ago I sent an article
to the Globe on this subjeot,which
I had good reason to know did
some good. . I sha11 now, as near-
ly as I can remember, r epeat
what I then said. I simply re•
latea�,my method ar.d how well it
succeeded. I gave two 'examples.
I had one small field in which
spring whest entirely failed and
the,thisties grew up. very .thick
and rank. I allowed them to get
full size and when they wore fast
beginning blossom I took a
skimmer plough and,. turned then
nearly under and let them lie till
they were completer rotted.
Then I ploughed the field and
sowed it with fall wheat, which
yielded a inagniticent crop, and
we were able to bind it -all with-
out gloves. In another field there
was a largo patch of thistles
which had troubled me fair years
and seemed to gain every year. I
