MONTREAL LIVE STOCK MARKET There was a pretty large supply of butchers' cattle on the market. Trade was brisk. A number of the best cattle were bought by shippers, which caused light advance. Beat beeves sold at 4ao to 4,ic per lb ; pretty good animals, 3t to 4x0 ; common, 3c to 3ao. Calves scarce and pretty high priced. Few sheep or lambs were offered, and of in- different quality. Sold at 4c to 4ac. Several thousand mutton caroaaes have been brought here and sold at 7c. The horse trade is active. During the past. week there were shipped from here to the United States 130 horses, costing $13,760 50, an average of $105,81 each. The highest priced lot was 20 horses, costing here $2,59,0,and the lowest priced 17, which cost $1,511. BUFFALO LIVE STOCK MARKETS CATTLE—Receipts were only 118 cars, and the weather was fine, but only a small attendance of buyers.- New York buyers were almost entirely out of the trade, and Pennsylvania and tradesman from our towns were very slow about closing the sales. The highest prices were obtained for a few cars of Michi- gan steers, averaging 1,650 1be for which $5.60 were paid; $5.45 was paid for another lot, and several cars of 1,500 pounds and upwards sold at $5,40. Stock averaging 1,265 to 1,345 lbs sold at $4.50 to $4.85, and 1,050 to 1,140 lbs sold at $4 to $4.25 SHEEP and LAMBS— Receipts were about 65 cars. The mar- ket opened very slow, but later in the day there was a fair demand for good lambs and the best lots of sheep at bare- ly steady former prices, but light thin lambs and common sheep were neglect- ed. Sales of good to choice sheep of 95 to 100 lbs. were at $5.25 to $5.65 ; light fat to fair, 80 to 90 lbs., $4,90 to $5.20. Lambs were in better request, at firm Saturday's prices; 85 to 90 lbs. sold at $6.40 to $6.60 ; 70 to 80 lbs. sold at $6.25 to $6.40, and the bulk of the above grades were cleared off. TORONTO LIVESTOCK MARKET. The receipts at the cattle market lags week were 1,222 cattle, 367 sheep ,send 393 hogs. Thirty loads arrived includ- ing 162 hogs and 62 sheep. The market was rather overstocked and selling was not as brisk as it has been for the last week or so. The bad market in Mont- real has had an effeot ton the market here. The quality of the cattle offered was no better than it has been lately, and prices were about cent lower. Really choice butchers' cattle sold at 4o per lb., but there were not many of these to be had; good stock sold on a basis of 3} to 31c, and medium' 3 1,0 3}c, The pros- pects are not of the best for the remain- der of the week. Demand for export cattle was fair, but not many were of- fered. A couple of loads were picked up in small lots at 3i to 4ao per lb. for steers, and 3 to 4o for build. Offerings were mostly bulls and oxen. Milch cows and springers sold fairly well, the local demand was small, 'but d good many were taken for shipment to Mont- real. One lot of 12 head at $35 per head, Common sold at $25, while choice sold as high as $55. There is no ()hang to report in sheep and Iambs Enough were on the market for the de- mand. The quality 'was fair. Good sheep are worth about f4c per lb. and lambs bring from 5 to 5ao per lb, eAK powo Absolutely Pure. This powder lever varies.
