Mr. Fred Vanderlip, formerly a
resident of this town, died rather
suddenly in London ou Tuesday of
last week. The remains wore in-
terred in the'sfamily plot, Brantford,
in which city the deceased lived for
many years.

Miss McMicking was surprised
last Thursday evening by- the ap-

of which Mr. Charles Leo on behalf

Some merriment is being caused
by the said to, be veritable fact that
a horse had been ,found in this
township with its tail where its
head ought to be. The animal
seemed all right • when it was pur-
chased by a party the other day,
but when it reached home,. which
it did without its owner, the halter
was attached to its tail iustead of to
its head. It had run away and the
halter becoming loosed from the
head of the animal by. some means
became entangled in its tail. And it
'certaiuly must Have been a novel
sight to see' the animal leading the
halter instead of tho halter leading
the aniinal. .

Miss -Ida Rath who has boon on
the decline for some time is now on
the mend.
Mr. Howard McGowan returned
home from Chatham last week, he
intends -going back after Xmas.
The 'Westfield Literary society is
tak ing the lead this winter as usual'
The "mountain goats" are far be-
hind both in talent and numbers.
The Wawanosh people are ahead
of any other township as far as
poetical talent is concerned. The
Blyth Standard 'is supplied from
here with poems weekly, and also
Christmas greetings.
A very successful Christine tree
and entertainment was held .in the
union church on Thursday evening.
Au interesting programme was given
to the chairman, Mr. Quinn, who
gave it justice. After the program -
mo was finished the trees were un-
loaded of their superior fruits,which
took some time, and all went home
satisfied with the evening's amuse-
ment. A collection was taken up
which amounted to $10.50 in aid of
the Sunday school.

why we can account for this is they
always turn out a good article. We
have often wondered why some
enterprising men don't open out
here as a tinsmith.

CHRISTMAS TREE,—The Christ-,
mas tree entertainment at Turner's
Church last Friday night was larg-
ely attended and proved a grand
success. The troo was loaded with
presents for young and old of the
Sabbath school, and the distribution
of some of them .caused , uproarious
laughter. Among the better class of
presents was a costly ono to Mr. Ed-
ward Turner, and an album to Mr.
A. Elcoat. • •
ACCIDENT.—Mr. Win.Cooper of the
Mill road met with an accident last
week which though bad enough
might have been much worso, even
fatal. It seems that, Mr. Cooper
was riding through Seaforth on the
edge of another man's sleigh and
when crossing the railway track
the team became frighteried and
proved themselves too much for
tiro driver, and in their "mad race
Mr. Cooper was thrown from the
sleigh, head foremost, against a
telegraph post. Farmers at this
time of year should either feed their
horses less oats or use bits so that
they can keep their horses under
propos command and not endanger
lifo and property by those frequent
runaways,
