The case was an appeal . from a decision of Police Magistrate Chadwick, of Ingersoll, convictnig Mayor Buchanan of an offence Against the public morals in connection with the management of bis entire horses. The respondent failed to establish the town by-law, and the case fell through on a tech- aaieality. The jury therefore quashed the conviction. —On Friday last while a son of Mr, Miers, who lives on the 2nd conces- ion of West Garafaxa, was moving about the barnyard close to the straw stack he heard what he thought was a peculiar sound coming from the stack, and upon investigation he found, after having gone several feet in the straw, a steer which was •supposed to have strayed from the premises some weeks ago. The ani- mal was alive- but was considerably reduced in flesh, and must have suf. fered for want of food and water dur ing its enclosure.
