REFORM 'rem MON Y
The Reform party cannot be
congratulated on the result of the
contesting of the Premier's election
fur Kingston. That election was
fought under somewhat peculiar
circumstances. Neither Sir John
Macdonald nor \L'. Gunn were iu
the constittiency during the contest,
and an agreement was colpo to by
the leaders ui the twu parties, that
no unduej.uiluence of any kiud
should lle°riised. In fact a bond to
that effect was prepared and signed.
After the election the Reformers
announced that they htld • been
gulled and made very emphatic
statements as to the venality and
corruption of their antagonist.
When the matter calve before the
courts, however, all they were able
to prove was that one man hail his
expellees paid and two men had
got ten dollars, but they %Yore un•
able to allow thllt the money cavo
from Tory agents, and although
they had -11id seventytwo charges,
they abandened the case after three
failures. There waft eitlior two
much said about this case before
the trial or there was too little
courage shown In carrying it on.
It would be welt if all the Liberals
passing through similar ordeals
could come out with as clean hands
as the Torus,—TVitness

chine, lacerating it as far as the first
joint.

Mount Forest, who recently returned
from Bowmanville, where she had
held a poaitiou as telegraph operator
for several months, -has undergone a
singular experience. She has been,
• troubled for some time with a lame

)
knee, which kept gradually y getting
more painful. The cause of her
lameness could not be accounted for
until a few days ago when a needle
came through the flesh at the knee
joint. Flow the needle came to be
in 'her leg is a mystery to herself and
parents.
