Editor News -Record.
DEAR SIa,—I notice that the old -
tithe whiskey -sponging editor of the
Grit town paper says that Sir John
more resembles a demi-john than a
dernr-god. I have not seen a denii-
god; and of the many human forms
I have seen the one that conies near-
est to a demi-john is t.h'at of the
aforesaid whisky -sponging Grit edi-
tor. He has been a very exemplar
of a whisky soaker from the time of
his Brussels ro*dyistn to his whole-
sale drinking in eVivitu;'s bar in
Goderich, where ho sucked down
the drinks put into a large vessel
that was intended for five persons;
all -along the line to.the era of his
swizzling at the British, etc., to his
Colborne adventure which your
Snitford eorrospondont refers . to
when he was clawing upward for
the gi'onud, to his "on the wing"
trips when he soared aloft in whis-
ky, down to his cheap gluttouons
absorptfonof si'irits'at home, which
the • liquor bills of the 'Goderich
spirit shopkeepersful conf rnied.
This lovely censor of whisky drink-
ing ette.mpte to compound tho sin
he is inclined to by .covertly dainn-
ing those wlio have no Mind to ini
tiate•'llis drunken proclivities. 'fake
another drink, Dan., and give us a
rest.. Your idea, Dane of a demi-
god has no doubt beenobtained
from visions called up while rolling
your olitics in fine frenzy when • in
a state of mania arctte or dol. teems.
Sir John certainly is not the sort of
-a- demi-god your whisky distempered
imagination has made yoti•so famil-
iar with. Your fend liar -spirits or
gods, I)an., have cone from below, a
sort of hermaphrodite Beaches .end
Aunanias colmnin'gled, in -the fumes
of bad whisky and sulphur.
