•' MONTREAL LIVE STOCK MARKET
There was a large supply of butchers'
'cattle on the market, but the trade was
riot active and the prices remained un -
()hanged. Several of the best butchers
have been buying considerable numbers
- of the rancho cattle from the Northwest
Territory at about $50 per head for 3 -
year -old stglars weighing from 1,250 lbs.
4o 1,300 lbs each. An extensive cattle
shipper, together with an old drover,
went to the cattle yards at Hochele,ga
on Friday to buy fifty ranebe steers, 3 -
year -olds, to ship to Britain. The
steers were offered them at 456 per head
but they thought it best to buy them by
weight at 4 cents per lb. When
weighed the steers averaged 1,390 lbs.,
or $62.56 each. Comtnon cattle sold at
from Ale. to 3c. per lb., and lean stock
to 2c do. Sheep and lambs were
not plentiful; prices firm at from $3 to
$5 eaoh for sheep, and from 112 to $4.25
each for lambs, Hogs are in pretty
good- supply, and sold at from 5c to 5o
per 113.
