Petrie, Teacher. J. West Tuckersmith Rev. and Mrs. Kerr entertained the choirs of Ontario street and Turner's church on Thursday evening last. A pleasant time is reported. Quite a large crowd attended the sale at Mr. John Cudmore's on 'Thursday, last. Mrs. Walter Heifers of aim nington, is spending Christmas with her daugh- ter, Mrs. Amos Townsend. Mr. John Layton of Loildon spent Christmas with relatives here. Mr. Walter Layton of Hensel! spent' Christmas with his., grandfather, Mr. John Layton of Clinton. Godericli Mr. John Hall of British Columbia arrived in time to eat his Christmas dinner at the old home on Cameron street. Jos. Miller, son of Engineer Miller of town, who has be'n in the Wait for some time, accepted the position of brakeman on the C. P. R. with headquarters at Regina. As a brake- sman, he has to deal with tramps who steal: a ride upon the oars. Somei time ago, he tried to force two tra- mps off the train. They through him off instead. His absence was not not- iced f,,r some time and when it was, the train was sent back after Mm and found Joe lying on the ground seem- ingly without sign of life. For four t!.ays he lay unconscious and when he recovered his senses, he told them his experience. The ten nips have not yet been localed. Mr. John Carrie. of Wycliffe College, Toronto, and by ither, Mr. Arthur Carrie of that city, arrived on Sat- urday evening to spend Christmas tide with their mother, Mrs. (Rev.). Walters and Mrs. Roger Pepper.• Mr. and Mrs. Wm. White 'of Grey township are spending Christmas holi- days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John White. Miss Ella Johns of Toronto Normal is spending holidays under the paren- tal roof. Mies Cora Rowcliffe has returned from a two weeks' visit with friends in N -V inchelsea. Mr. Geo. Turner has been laid. off work the past week, but we are pleased to say he is now improving., Mrs. J. E. Ball and son Clarence have also been on the sick fiat. • Mrs. Samuel Orick of Clinton spent Christmas the guest of her son, Mr. Herbert Crick. Mr. Ed. Bowers of Brantford wade his annual Christinas calls with• old friends here. Mr. Leslie Orick, who spent the sum- mer at Strassburg, Sask., has returned home to spend the winter. The feeling Is growing in this.vicinity that Tuckersmith will eclry the local option by-law on Jan, 7th, by a sub- stantial majority. The entertainment and Christmas tree ir. Turner's church on Monday evening, was a genuine success. The church was filled withan appreciative audience. Mr. Herbert Crich, 'super- intendent of the school, occupied the chair and bore his part well. An exl cellent program was given by the children and the choir ,of the church. A collection was taken during the ev- ening amounting to $16, which will be devoted to Sunday School purposes. • Blyth. • Our Public School was closed on Fri- \ day for the Christmas and New „Year ‘, holidays. The Christmas tree and entertain- merit of the English church held in Industry Hall on Friday evening last, was well attended and a splendid enter- tainment was given by the little and 11 elder ones. Besides there was a svell- laden tree with presents for both old and young. Proceeds S34. Mise Tells Carder of London spent Christmas Day with her parents. Miss Lizzie Walker arrived from Chi- cago on Monday to visit her parents for awhile. • Mr, J. T. Carter returned on Monday from' Midland where he has been work- ing for some time past. On Monday. at 12 p. m., a midnight service was held in the Roman Catholic church there being a large congrega- tion present, .On Christmas Day divine service was held in the English, Church at 10:30. Holy communion was anministered afterward. On Thursday evening the members of BlythMasonic Lodge intend holding an At Home in their hall. A. big time is anticipated. Miss Allis Emigh was attending a wedding in Goderich on Wednesday. There was a wedding in town on Wednesday. Constable Westlake spent hiS' mas holidays in the circular town. Monday next is nomination day for reeves, councillors and three trustees. There is expected to be some lively times at the meeting. About the •Play.
