The C.P.R. and G.T.R. War
at Goderich.
Goderich, Sept. 28. -The war be-
tween the rival railroads continues
merrily, and the prospects appear at
present as though the recent events
will result disastrou:Ay for the God-
erich and Guelph Railway. The G'.
T. R. steam shovel has be,mi work-
ing steadily ait the spot where it was
placed after being releaser from. the
temporary enclosure which the Gue-
lph and Goderieh placed around it.
The officials of the former road cla-
im that they are working on their
own property making 4novesstary
ilti-
proeeinenIs for the bettee operation
of the road. Incident to the earty-
ing out of these. improvements, .how-
ever, is 'the undermining of the tracks
of the rival railway and possibly the
removal of a portion of the trestle
work upon whieh the trackn are car-
ried. It is claimed a portion of the
trestle is on Grand Trunk property,
and should the steam shovel in mak-
ing the e zeal; ittion come in contact
with Die support:4 of the trestle melt
damage to the Guelph and Goderich
track. may result. It is estimate'
that should the Grand Trunk Rail-
way continue work according to the
present- plans the .cost to the rival
road of constructing retaining wails
will he in the neighborhood of M0-
000. There is some talk of a confer-
enwe inr Order to settle the differences
amicably and avoid. Ole heavy elpettge
