County Council
The last meeting of the County
Council in its present form was held
last week. Mr. Donaldson, a mem-
ber of Perth Council was present, and
made a few remarks showing the
friendly relations existing between the
two counties.
Oonrmittuents of several children to
the care of the Children's Aid Society,
was reported, and an allowance of
$1.23 per week made for maintenance.
R. Hunter, auctioneer, asked for ex-
tension of time re his license, having

lows ;—It is not lawful for any person
to run an engine of over 8 tons weight
over any highway. before strengthen-
ing at his own expense all bridges and
culverts to be crossed by said engine.
" if the engines are of less than 8 torts
weight it shall be the duty of persons
proposing to run any engine op' mach-
inery, to lay down on the bridges and
culverts to be ctossed,planks sufficient
to fully protect the flooring" or sur-
face of the bridges, and in default the
person charged shall be liable to the
municipality for all darnages resulting
to the flooring or surface ot bridges.
A Petition of Manchester ratepayers,
was read, asking for increase in area
of police village, which was granted.
A Petition from Dungannon asking
to be made into a police village was
left over for future consideration.
Messrs Cameron, of Brussels, and
Bartley, of Blyth, addressed the Coun-
cil in reference to grants to continua --
tion classes in Public Schools. The
Executive Com., recommended that
all schools doing this work get addi-
tional grants to snake it equal to the
amount receive.'
