Clintonfan Mr. Holmes druggist, received word yesterday _of 'the death: of his grand- father, Wm. T. Hohnes, which oc- curred at Edmond, Oklahomit. De- ceased formerly lived on the 16th con, of Goderich township, and catne into town tu go into partnership with Mr. Leslie, in the carriage business. He afterwards erected a factory where Wesley church now stands, and with his son, the late W. .T. Holmes, as partner, carried on a carriage and bent - stuff factory. About 27 years ago he left here, first going to Kansas, and later settling in Oklahoma. For years he has been troubled with rheumatism, and was compelled to use crutches. He was a devout Christian worker, and often walked three miles on Sun- day, on crutches, to preach the gospel, his heart being so thoroughly in the work. His wife predeceased him about eight years ago. Two sons, Philip and Fred, and t wo daughters,Mrs. Al organ and Mrs. Taylor, survive him. Mr. Holmes was 82 years of age. The Wardenship In order to eliminate politics, the County Councillors in 1900unanimous- ly passed a resolution to the effect that the Wardenship, should be held alternately by a Liberal and Conser- vative, no matter what the political complexion of the Council. This reso- lution. has been faithfully adhered to, and has proved very satisfactory, and we presume it will be adhered to by the Incoming council. This will give theposition to a Liberal next year. Of course it is early to prophecy, be- cause one Ines not know who will he members of the Council, but should Mr J.. N. McKenzie, one of the repre- sentatives of Ashfielcl be a member of the new Council, we would like to see him get the Wardenship.
