day thus refers to a well-known

"Mr R. Norman Jolliffe, baritone, a
gifted pupil of Mr August Wilheltnj•
gave a recital last night in St'George's
Hall, which was attended bya fashion-
able and. appreciative audience. Mr,
joint% has a fine voice, mellow. and
sonorous, and he manages it with un-
comMon skill. He Sings, naoreover,
with earnest expression, as was shown
in his 'renderings of the Schumann
"Evening Song,' "Lovely Cradle of
My Sorrows" and "Night of Spring.."
Later. when he sang Schubett's "Erl
Kink," he revealed- a senee of the
dramatic which made the number one
of his most effective efforts of the -
evening. Ile was enthusiastically re-
called, and had to respond with an
extra song. During the evening he
sang other numbers by Schubert,
Strauss, Mozart, Lautz, Wilhelnaj nod
