Reeve Bailie in the chair. Minutes of
last meeting were read and filed. The
treasuter's statement showed a balite ce
on hand of $618,89. The Reeve and
Clerk were authorized to prepare a by-
law and have debentures ready for
next meeting, for Kirk's drain, on mo-
tion of Murray and Anderson. The
Clerk was instructed to notify the
Sterling Bank not to collect any taxes
after Dec. 15th. Sas. Campbell was
paid gravel account of $5,36, due since
1005, on motion ot' Medd and Murray.
All accounts against the township
must be presented to the Board by
Dec. 15, as they will not be honored
after thet date. All taxes not paid by
Dec 15 will have 5% added after that
date. A number of cheques were is-
sued which will appear shortly in the
Financial Statement. Council ad-
journed, to meet on Dec. 15th au 10

The following- decision, rendered at
Dungannon Division Court, is of in-
terest. Ashfield township easily won'
its case vs, Archie Johnston. Johnston
took the contract' of gravellsng 100
yards, but failed te do the work in the
time fixed. Ile was then notified that
if he did, notdo it by acertain extended
time, the contract would be re -let, and
he would be held liable for any extra
cost. Johnston took the contract at
47c a, yard, the next lowest tender
being for 50c.. At the re -letting the
lowest tender was for 69c, and John-
ston was sued for the difference, $:n
His defence- was that he *did not con-
sider the contract binding. and that in
the past other contractors had been let
off, but this was ruled outby the Judge
as having no bearing on the case at ad.

Deestree-Another of the early resi-
dents of this section Passed away on
Friday. in the person of Mrs. Richard
Stonehouse. She was 73 years of age,
and for 43 years resided in this section.
She was a w,oman held in the very
highest esteem her husband, deceased,
was one qf the first pioneers of this
township. . •

DEATH, -On Saturda,y the remains
of the late Mrs, H. Thiel, of con. 2,
East Wawanosh, were interred in the
Union Cemetery. The funeral 'was
largely attended by friends and ac-
quaintances of the deceased, and tes-
tified to the respect in which she was
held by the community.
Merits. Grading is completed on
the C. P. It., and the teams are haul-

etc. The evaporator finished its seas-

a social on Tuesday evening, at the
home of the Misses Earatt, and a very

day evening, and occupied the pulpit
of the Methodist church ; on Monday
evening he attended an entertainment
in the Presbyterian church in Seeforth.
There will be a lecture and views in
the Presbyterian church here on Mon-
day night next ; come and have a, good
time.

Ctionen.-Prayer-meeting was held
011 Wednesday evening of this week,
instead of Thursday. Divine service
was conducted here on Sabbath by
Rev, Dr. McLean, formerly of Blyth.
The W. F. M. S. held their monthly
meeting at the home ot Mr. John Link -
later on Wednesday afternoon.
NoTes, Mrs. Wm. Fotheringhare,
of Brncefield, was the guest of her
daughter, Mrs, A. Clutton, on Satur-
day and. Sunday ; Mrs, Mutton has not
been in her usual health the past week,
but we are pleased to rsport that,she
is improving slowly. Mr. and Mrs.
Jno. Chisholm are rejoicing Over the
Arrival of e baby boy. •Straw -cutting
was started in our neighborhood last
week. James Chisholm is excavating
on the old Strachan farm, in prepara-
tion for building a new Darn in the
spring. Joseph McGran has cotnpleted
his terra of work on the Tobin place,
and, with his family, expects to move
to Saltfotel in a short time. A few
families in our neighborhood spent a
pleasant evening, with taffy and
eames, • at the home of Mr. Horace
Horton on Friday evening last. We
bear rumors of a wedding to take place
not far from us ; both parties are well
known here. •
