A Seedless .A.pple.
A seedless apple is now on the Cana-
dian market, and it is not unlikely to
beetane very popular.
A month ago Hon John Dryden, for-
merly Minister of Agriculture in Onta-
rio, visited the seedless apple orchard,
and the report of what he saw these is
of general interest. He pronounces
the seedless apple a hearty and vigor-
ous grower, reaching maturity very
uickly, while the trees themselves.
eat fruit in a leery short time. The
ex- ninister also reports that seedless
apple tree a bear a good crop year after
year, while in size the apples have no-
. thing to be desired.
From an economic standpoint, the
apple, being entirely devoid of seeds,
and the core vacauro,h 9,8 many advan-
tages. The seedless ispple is all meat,
' the only traces of seeds or core] being
yestigual and occupying so little space
as to cause absolntelyno waste.
• But the strangest feature of the
Beelines apple is its immunity from
worms. It ts well kno ein that worries
in app,es obtain their sustenance not
from the meat of the apple, but from
the seeds ; hence it evident that hav-
ing .to seed, a worm could not live in a
seedless apple.

COMMENDABLE MOVE —It is said
that the Postmaster General will bring
in a resolution next session to increase
the salaries of country postmasters. •
This proposal is commendable in every
respect. For many: years the remun-
eration of these important Govern-
ment officials haa been scandalously
siva. It was held that when a stoae-
keeper was given a charge of a past,
office his ordinary business was made
prosperous apd that there arts no need
to pay him well. Moreover, the Gov-
ernment faced an anrmal deficit in the
Postoface and the ery of economical;
administration was louder than the
appeal.of the postmasters. But now
tbere is a large surplus in this Depart -
meet of the Government, and- Mr.
Lemieux is doing well in, using that
surplus to increase salaries;
