On Monday last William Durk de-
livered to buyers at Blyth a fine team
of dapple grey colts, rising four years
old and weighing 2950 lbs. when deliv-
ered, for the neat sum of $430. This is
the highest price that has ever been
paid for a team of horses in this vicin-
ity. The buyers said they had been
buying horses. for fifteen years, and
have never, before paid that amount
for a team. This speaks well for the
horse breeders of this neighborhood.

pioneers of the township of Stanley
has gone the way of nil living,. Air
Valentine Diehl, tate of the village of
Idracefield, but formerly of Stanley,
died on • Sebbath ; evening, February
18th, after, a, severe intim:: of over

a native of Bavaria, Germany, where.
he born in the year 1823. At the
age of twenty-three he left his natiye

American arriving in New York in
1846: Jaw went to Massaehnsetts,

'came to Canada. In 1849, when the

for the settlers in the fifties and sixties.
About twenty year's ago he rented his
farm and retired to Brueefield, where
he continued to live till his death. De-
ceased was a ma, of considerable in-
telligence, honest and upright in his
dealings, and was a highly respected
ineitiber of the community. In politics
he was a life long Liberal, and a Pres-
byterian in religion. He WAS a Inern-
ber of the 'Union uhurch, Brucefield.

was attended daring his last illness, by
his wife,his two sons john and, Henry.
his , daughter. Mrs Carter, of Shoal
Lake, Manitoba, and a number of kind

ings County,and fifteen grend.children
to mourn his loss. The funeral was
on Tuesday and was attended. by
large number of sympathizing friends
and acquaintances. The funeral see -

on Thursday evening of last week at

59 Duffield street, Detroit, Friday, and
shot the woman twiee as she .stood in
the kitchen. One bullet struck her in
the right cheek, lodging in the back of,
her head, and the other struck her
hand. Richards turned the Weapon

are seriously injured. Mrs, Richards
was formerly it resident of Seaforth.
