At least an unprejudiced observer
would be led to think so, after reading
the reports of the Town Council meet-
ing, in the local papers, held 5th inst.
What do we find there ? We read
that most highly respected, not to say,
gifted, member, Councillor Gibbings,
puts himaielf on record in a not very
and. drunkard. „ Many there are who I I
hu a carious concern " reflardin
friends and acquaintances who depart
this life—whether they are' -lost or
saved ; their past lives and actions are
weighed by them. But the promise is.
that they that call upon the name of
the Lord shall be saved. We also
learn the utter folly of leaving off sal-
vation until the last moments of life,
when body and mind are weak, ar d
very little strength is left to strive to
be saved,: Many admit that the nar-
row way is the best war, yet they
make excuses for not being in that
way.. For instance, in writing to. a
friend,y" ears ago and asking him if he
had joined the church, he answere•l.
and said, "what is the use, for there is
a certain church with a big member-
ship, and they have got into a form
and' keep as near that form as possible.
