PRESENTM ENT.
The jurors for our Sbverigli Lady
thNueen under..oath •Present:
1. We congratulate your Lord-
ship on the first time of visiting
this county, and Nope.you.may be
long spared to occupy the honorable
position you now occupy.
2. We have visited the jail and
find it neat and Chian, the' prisoners
satisfied, and the ,.governor and turn-
key obliging. At. present there are
eleven prisoners in jail, .namely,
eight males and' three females. ,Of.
the hales, one is insane, three are
vagrants, two in for Larceny,• ono for
forgery, and one for refusingto pay
his po11 tax, all under .sentence.
Of the females, two are vagrants,.
and one insane"; both of the. vag-
rants
anrants under sentence." .The two
- insane prisoners have:both Been >•e -
ported to the•.proper authorities, and
are now waiting removal to the
asylum; neither of them are what
we deem violent. .
30• We would strongly recent-•
mond the county council to build a.
house of refuge, as it is Certainly.,
wro%g that people who are unable
from some cause or • other to sup-
port •themselves ,should be classed.
amongst criminals..' Wo trust the
matter will again be brought for-
ward, and that the council will pur-
ohase the necessary 'property, and
erect suitable buildings' -without
further delay. '
3. The labor question mentioned
to us by your Lordship does not af-
font this county much, on account
of its being so largely agrittitural.,
But we would impress, upon the
government the necessity of taking
such • steps as would avert 'any •con--
ilict th't might occur between cap-
ital and labor.
All of which is respectfully sub -
pitted. ,
