The stratum of salt in which they ten' 'working is- twenty-two feet thick, and fourteen feet of it is -pure salt. Theminers remove it by blasting (boring holes with augers specially atlaptel for the purpose, and inserting small charges of dynamite.) 1 collected, some.of the dest which was -coming from one of these 'holes, which had pene- trated about four feet horizontally and about midway between the top and bot- tom.
