To Tfiz EnTTOft,-In response to the in-
vitatiou of Mr. Blue, Deputy0oreraisoioner
of A,griculture, I take particular pleasure
in drawing the attention of the farratire of
Chitario t some important things in eon,
;notion with spring wheat. This action on
our part is the result of very many inquiries,
particularly from Grey, Simeoe and other
northern •ana northeastern counties uring
the nait winter as to procuring new varie-
ties •of seed grain through Government
agency. ^-ft has been thought by some that
money placed in the estimatee three
years ago for importing new varietiea of
wheats from Europe should new be handled
for that purpose or otherwise appropriated
forlorn' seeds. While the good intentions
s of the Legislature in this respect havennot
as yet been followed up to a practical issue,
I think it is riot a atrong point in the
smartnesa of our farmers that no part Of
the Province took. any notice a the unex-
pended money until broached at the farm-
ers' institutes during the past winter.
A rnonnoek OF CEREALS:
That the Province of Ontario must re-
inain a promineilt grovier of the cereals,
whatever branch of her agriculture may
predominate during any particular period,
is no doubt true, Competition does not
effect mixed farming in comparison with a
• specialty such as dairying, and wheat as an
absolutely necessary part of systematic
crop growing cannot be neglected in its
thorough maintenance by as systematic
work in selection, change, and even the)
making of new varieties. Before submit.

Could be advanced in favor of this mom-

chance of success by the improvement of
those that have done wellovith no, fah
by the selection of particular berries and

Would it not pay Ontario many
