Hoasas.----A few days since Mr. Alex
Innes, the well-known horseman, of Stan-
ley, township; bought from Ur. J.Hortote;
of ITsborne, a two-year-old filly, for which
he paid the handsome sum of $300. Mr,.
Innesietendsto go more into the raising
of first dos horse stock than ever, and is
securing good fillies for that purpose.
He has in hisstable five mares, which,
for their aged; he does not believe can be
equalled in the counties of Huron, Bruce
and•Perth. He bus three two -year-olds
that weigh respectively 1,500, 4520, and
1,630; an imported mare, 1;800, and. a
.Canadian mare 1,690 -or a total of 8,140
pounds for the five. . This is certainly very
'gbod weight, and can hardly be beaten.

The concert given here by the North
St, Methodist choir, of Goderich, on Tues-
day evening March 2nd, was a grand sue-
ceas. The drive must have- been it bitter-
ly cold one but the choir do not break en-
gagements beceuse of unpleasant weather.
After partalsiug of it hot supper furnished
by the Methodist choir here, on whose
invitation they came, they repaired to the
church and gave the audience the richest
treat they have had for some time. The
close attention and deep interest with

out showed the appreciation of the audi-
ence, while their rounds of applause and
each; res evinced the.quality of the rendi-
tions. d The programme was 'varied by it
reading from Miss flenderson;ancl recita-
tions from Rev. G. H. Cobbleclick and
Miss Trueman. The efforts of Miss True -
Man did her great credit, and her perfect
naturalness showed her to be mistress of
the art. When a similar prograralne is
furnished the church will be too small to
accommodate the audience.

THE, 0a.s.Ton., -John R. Clarke,* the
hoot -black orator, appeared for.the.seconcl
time in Cardno's hall lest Monday even-
ing. There was alaite audience, and it
is needless to.say that all present were de-
lighted in, listening to the elequerme of
this man ot power and' genius. His
hearers were held spell -boned forover two
hours. • Mr. Clarke will speak here again
on March 21st. • He will deliver two ad-
dresses, one in the afternoon to a mass
meeting. of ch.ilciren and young 'people
generally on "Famous boys and girls," and
one in the evening to a mass meeting of
all .,classes on "Moral heroism of the
temperance Movement."
Bragte.-The Doherty. Band, of Clinton
and the' Seaforth Town Band furnished
