The people of Blyth were startled
on Friday morning of last yea when
they heard that John W. Bell; hemp -
maker, hed died in bed about, seven
o'clock. During the pastefeve eveelee
he had been complaining about a pain
in, his chest but did not think it ser-
ious, though lie went to the doetor
and got some medicine. All Thanks-
giving Day he did not feel well and
during the night complained of • the
levere pain and did not sleep hardly,
at all. Mr. Bell was born in the
city of Dover, comity of Kent, Eng.
In 1817, and learned the trade of har-
nessmaking in that country. He was
married to his first wife there and

they lived for a couple ot month,
after moving to Myth where he ree
sided for ethe remaining 35 years of
his life,. A family ot three girls sur-

Miss Selena of Toronto -and one seri
Johnwho is at present in the States.
His first wife died. some fourteen
years ego. For many years he was.

was a staunch •Conservative and a
devout member of the Anglican church

death of husband and lather. • The
