When Speech was Golden,
A ventriloquist now famous, was at
one time so. hard up that lie had to
walk 'from New York to E'hiledelphia
says it daily paper. On that occasion
he picked up a miserable little dog;
'because it looked so much like.he felt.'
The first house, he came to. was a
saloon. He had no money, butwent
in. The proprietor., a German, said ;
"Well, Whet vvilleyou have?"
He said, "I'll take a little whiskey,"
and then turning to the dog, he asked: •
