oyster supper on Thursday evening
last. After the oysters and•other good
things had received attention, •enjoy-
able pence were indulged in by the
young people. The party broke
up about one -thirty,. the company de-
parting for their own homes after
*thanking their host for a very pleas-
ant .evening.

near :Stratford were guests the past
week of their sister, Mrs. lien. Rath -
well of the Hayfield Line.
Mr. Robt. Thompson Jr. of the
16th eon. was in Bayfield on Tues, -
day attending the funeral . of the late
Henry Beacom of Midland, Mich.
Mr, and Mrs. Stevens of Colborne
township are guests this week of
their daughter, Mrs. Reuben. Grigg.
, Mr. Stevens is on his way home from
Guelph hospital where- he underwent
treatment for sixe weeks .and -is now
feeling better.

On -Wednesday evening of this week
one of those happy and pleasing
.events. took place at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Jas. 'Graham pf the llth
can., Goderieh township, when their
youngest daughter, Bertha K, was
united in the holy bonds of matri-
mony to Mr. Geo. Elliott of the l3ay-
field Line.
Precisely at six o'clock the bride,
leaning on the arm of her father, en-
tered the drawing room, which was
tastefully decorated, and took her
place under an evergreen arch and
large white bell. She looked charm-
ing in a handsome costume of white
voile trimmed. with Pace ribbon. The
wedding ,march was played by Mrs.
W. II. (graham.
They were unattended. Rev. • J.
Snowden of Holmest;t;lle performed
the ceremony. . ""t'
After the congratulations the
guests, about forty -in number, all
adjourned to. the dining room where
they partook of an excellent dinner.
The presents were both rinmexous :and
costly showing the high esteem
in which the happy .couple are held
by their friends.
- The bride's going away gown was
a suit of blue and with it she wore
a blue velvet bat.
Among the guests were : Miss 'El-

and Mrs. 1). Tudor, Conr'tanee ;
Messrs. WM. and Herb Alexander and

The young couple will take up
housekeeping on the groom's farm on
the Bayfield Line, where they will be

• The entertainment and .basket soc-
ial at Bethel last Wednesday evening
was fairly well attended, notwith-
standing the stormy weather. The
proceeds. amounted lio about twenty
dollars. Everybody reported a good
time • and enjoyed themselves.

the agent, had great difficulty in sav-

Miss Maggie Campbell has returned
home after spending a month at Tor-
onto and Galt.
Capti. J. A. Ferguson, Charles Fer-
guson and Harold Pollock who have
baffled with the seas and storms of
the Great Lakes during the past seas-
on, returned home safe last week.
Mrs. E. Elliott and family, who
spent the past few months at Wind-
sor, returned to the village last
week.
A meeting of the Fruit Growers As-
sociation ,;of Ontario will he head in
the town hall on Friday afternoon of
this week.
P'rof. Patterson of London occupied
the pulpit of St. Andvew's church on
Sunday last.
The annual concert of Trinity Sun-
day school will be held in the town
hall on. the Fn.day evening before
Cli'ristmas when a good program will
be given by the members of the
school who always furnish a good en-
tcrtainment. All friends of the school
are asked to reserve this date for the
concert ; a good time is assured.
On Friday last the death occurred
in Midland City, Mich., of henry W.
Beacom, a former resident of Bay-
field, whose remains were brought
here for interment. Deceased was the
fourth s•on of Mr. David Beacom cf
Clinton.: He was born on- the Bay-
field Line in. 1850 and spent his boy-
hood and yeun:; manhood in this
vicinity. He clerked in the store of
Mr, Jatti. Sheppard in ('Triton and
also in 'Goderieh for a tiiue previous
to going into business with his bro-
ther Robert in Bayfield, which they
did about the year 1876, About this
time, too, he was united in marriage
to Miss Marjorie Erwin, daughter of
tine late Mr. George Erwin of Bay-
field. About the year 1877 Mr. Bea -
cont left Hayfield and with his wife
moved to Ann Arbor, Mich., . ' .where
they lived for some time. Later they
moved to Midland City, Miele, where -
they went into business and where
they have continued to live. Deceas-
ed is survived by lnis wife and one
adopted daughter, Mee Laura,, botli
of Whom accompanied the . remains.
The funeral took place on 'Tuesday
afternoon from the hone of deceas-
ed's brother-in-law, '',Ir. H. W. Lr -
win. The se t roc s wcr2v ' conducted by,
Rev. Mr. Laws. The pallbearers were
R. J. C'luff, Clinton, Fobt.' Manley,
Jahn Beacom, Thos. Camerae, John
Falconer and: Thos, King. Interment
took place in hayfield cemetery.

The` 'anniversary services it connec
tion • with the Methodist church will
be• held next Sunday and. will he con-
ducted by Rev. J. E. Ford of Wesley
church, , Clinton, who ,will preach
morning and evening. On Monday ev-
ening the annual fowl supper will be
given in the Temperance hall. It
Seems quite. unnecessary •to say any-
thing about this ::rapper as everyone
knows it to be gine of the events of
the season, all that is necessary is
to say that it will be jut a,s . good,
if not better than usual. The supper
will be followed by a program, which
will be given in the town hail. The
program will be furnished by . the:
Maple Leaf Orchestra, Seaforth, Mrs.
McGuire, soloist also of Seaforth,
Miss Shipley, elocutionist, Clinton,
and. Rev. Mr. Laws and family of
Bayfield, who will give several vocal
and instrumental selections. There
will "also be short addresses by Rev.
Mr. Miller, Auburn, and Revs. Con -
dell and Laws of Bayfield. This • is
expected to he one of the best enter-
tainments ever given in 'Varna, and
everyone should take advantage of it.

The West End Beef Icing held its
annual meeting last week and wound
up the season's business. There are
between 40 and 50 patrons and sub
patrons and in the season of 30
weeks as many head of cattle were
slaughtered. The butcher was Mee
Rivers of the east end of thea town-
ship who aoted in that eapacity for
five different rings which netted Hint
fifteen dollars per week. The ;officers
