Mrs. Hector McFadyen has return-
ed from a visit with her husband- at
Seattle. Mr. McFadyen has taken an-
other railroad contract at Alaska and
Mrs. McFadyen purposes spending the
winter tc with her parents here, Mr. and
Mrs. A. M. Polly.
Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Walker, who us-
ed to reside in West street, Godcrich,
are now living in -Orangeville and like
it very much, but they still have a
veru tender feeling for the old lake-
side town.
Some of our citizens went down to
Seaforth to hear the Guy Bros.
i»'. Mabee attended the funeral of
a relative at Port Stanh•y-last week.
Barry Belcher has gone to Trenton,

Baby Hasid Brown, who was taken
,to the hospital on the death of her

Captain Kenneth Campbell of the
Dredge, Eugene, Boston, is home for
the holiday season,
Conductor Adam Barrow is the '.at,

Mrs. Bain, while helping to hang
curtains the other day, stepped into
a stovepipe hole and received ,such in-
juries that she had to be removed• to
the hospital. Mrs. Bain is advancing
in years and her injury is all the more
serious on that account.
Mrs. E. R. Swartz also met with a
painful accident while hanging cur-
tains. Curt:i:n.hanging would seen• to
be a very dangerous occupation.
Artist Sallovys has been for, the
past three weeks or so touring through
the wilds of northern Ontario, and
we will no doubt see some fine results
of his observation.
The meeting of the Woman's Insti-
tute will be held next Thursday In
Oddfellows hall.
On 'Thursday evening last a very in-
teresting aiad delightful evening was
spent at the home of Mrs. John green,
it being the mont.h'y meeting of the
W.M.S. of Victoria street church. This
was a social evening and lea was
served at 7 o'clock. After tea , the
pastor, Rev. Dr. Medd took the chair.
and a program was gone through. A
statement of the work done was read
by Mrs. Medd. There were readings,
recitations and music, vocal and in-
strumental. Those taking part were :
Miss Jessie Wilson, Miss Hattie Bel-
cher, Missc,s ileac! Belcher and Thel-
ma Ross, Miss Green, Mr. G. M. "El-
liott and Mr. Wm. Milian. Dr. Medd
gave a brief account of some mission
work he did among the Indians when
he first entered the ministery. IIe ex-
pressed the desire to.see some of his
members devote their lives to the

iiymn, and pia shied at the piano w•hilo
the closing hymn was hoing sung, and
after the thanks or all had bean tend-
ered Mrs. (Eisen for her courtesy in

The position of head of the depart

technical high school, 'I'oronio, has
been offered to Dr. J. M. Field, prin-
cipal of the Goderieh ('ollcgiate In-
stitut:. t1)r. Field has the matter un-
der consideration. 1(e has been on

and his leaving would be a consider-
able loss to the school.

that the contract for the new outside

Michael Connelly of Montreal. The
contract figure is $140,117. The work
to be done is the construction of 600
feet of concrete breakwater, southwest
of the harbor entrance, similar to the
structure already huilt. at the north-
west.
The contract for an addition to the
