WRINKLES.
I eau see Bub Spulpin's finish, Lastt
year he bought a new up-to-date bin-

next twenty years. The other day a
machine agent drove into the yard,
put his horse In the stable and fed
him . oats, and then sat down in the
front stoop and smoked a cigar till
Bud. came in from the fields. Bud
told hint to 'hang up Ids hat and have

,"Binder !" says Bud. "131n-

"why, we got a new binder I..st
year."
"That's all right,"'says the smooth,
visitor ; "but this here binder of
ours has got a new wrinkle on to it."
That's why Bud is poor all the
time. He falls for a nee wrinkle
every trip. And every time ire gets

bouglit more wrinkles than would fill

He certainly is a great man for

Foul` Rabies Centres in W
Ontario.
"Rabies is disappearing between
Toronto and Hamilton, but it still
exists lin the western part of On-
tario," said Dr. A. J. Aniyot, Pro-
vincial Analyst, in the course of his
address on "Rabies" to tate Pathol-
ogical section of the Canadian Medi-
cal Association, • which met in Toron-
to iast week, "The neighborhood
around Galt, Paris, and Sioncoe is
still a centre from which cases are
reported ; that taking In London,
Tharesville, and Chatham is anoth-
er; that about Goderiehis a third
and all isolated community near Ow-
en. Sound is a fourth."
Dr. Amyot then traced the history
of the present rabies scare from the
time that the dog which caused it
crossed • the Niagara River near
Queenston. He went back further and
described the great rabies terror of
1840, and connected both with the in -1
troductlon of the disease on the North
American continent in 1768, when it j
came into Boston and spread rapidly
all over the Eastern States.
Carried to the North-West..
stern
"There are cases of rabies in Mani-
toba and Saskatchewan now which
were caused by the transportation of
dogs to thosa Provinces from, . On-
tario," he said.
During tie recent scare the brains
of las dogs, cats, cattle and sheep
had been examined in the Provineia.t
Laboratory, besides one human brain.
Sixty-one persons, who had been bit-
ten by animals, had been examined
and been given the treatment. Few
liked the course, but, as one patient
said, they "would rather take the
treatment than bark,"
Dr. Ainyot paid a great compliment
to Professor J. J. Mackenzie of the
University of Toronto, by saying that
he had discovered the "ne$ri bodies"
or the rabies germs, in 1895, or
about ten years before they were pro
elaimcd to the world as the cause of
the disease by the Italian, Negri:
Professor Mackenzie examined the
brains of , about 40 dogs at that
time and isolated the degenerate
bodies which were afterwards con-
nected with the disease
