last week and gave a very interesting
little program which was muea ap-
preciated by the inmates. Manager

THE FIRST TEST.
On Friday last the waterworks
standpipe and reservoir were filled by
the Doherty Company's fire protection
system and on Monday the first teat
of the plant, apart from the power
houie machinery, took place.
The standpipe alone furnishes from
50 to 60 pound e pressure and with
thisa etream. was thrown .,upon the
roof of the town hall. As is under-
stood, cif 'tours°, the standpipe pres-
sure is only intended for domestic
