On Sabbath last Rev. Dr. Stewart
of Clinton preached two missionary
sermons in the Presbyterian church
to interested audiences. In • the
., orning services he spoke of the
home 'mission fields of northern
" Ontario, and the West. In the ev-
ening he gave a vivid description
r of the French Canadian work in the
province_of uebec. He was lis-
tened to withrapt attention, as
Ito gave pictures of the life of the
,people there, as he himself had
seen it. The French Canadians he
said were a good people, but
ttheir
11vos'>,were hard, they begged
that
the Light of the Gospel should be
it given then. In conclusion he
spoke, of the foreign mission work
and the awful need of the gospel.

Mr. John Hamm, of Blyth, former
ly of Logan, was in Mitchell during
the week. Mr. Hamm is a veteran
of the American war, and comes
to Mitchell every three months to
