Councillors who vote against such a benevolent institution should be sent to Hamilton Lunatic Asylum, until reason was restored, even it it takes years. IT cost a foolish fellow 310.00 in Hamilton Police Court for hugging a bashful young maiden. Of course the weather is rather warm and ''dr. Pio- card should have waited until autumn In some places an X might he given the other way, and no names mention- ed but in Hamilton it is different. d•2rON "Doe's, be in a hurry to quit school" is a word of advice we would like to whisper into the ear of the youth. A good education is never a burden to carry and often an untold blessing. If your way is open to continue your schooling do not fail to embrace the opportunity: You'll not regret it as yougrow older. • • _•.Gr THE Hamilton Times says :- uron County Council is considering the es- tablishment of a municipal sanitarium for consnmptives. The work of com- bating tuberculosis will never be well done till every city and county shows its appreciation of the situation by joining in the fight and finding the money with which to follow up the attack on the best scientific lines. Ontario cannot afford to lose lives at the present rate by the plague. ONE of the novelties in English banking circles is to serve a number of the smaller places with the neces- sary facilities by a movable bank, furnished with motor power, which makes regular calls and transacts business both in paying out or taking in deposits. The movement is said to work satisfactorily and is destined to grow and have its plans copied by other departments of trade. This is not a slow going world by any means and to keep up-to-date a fellow has to keep regularly on the jog. NeW WE are please to notice that King George has seen fit to honor the well known and clever Canadian, Senator Geo. W. Ross, who will now be desig- nated as Sir G. W. Ross. He has won his svay from the foot of the ladder and by hard work and faithful per- formance of duty has been deserved- ly promoted from one degree to an- other. His life is and should prove a stimulus to every ambitious young man in the country. NN SeetooL teachers are a scarce com- modity and salaries are on the move up proportionally, Only a few years ago numbers of men were only remise ing $300. per annum and today many a young lady is being paid from $400 to 3600, even in rural schools. One of the lamestfeatures of the whole busi- ness is the too frequent changes. Some schools have a new teacher al- most every year whicb is not condu- cive to good results for instructor or pupils, Trustees should not permit a faithful successful teacher to leave for the sake of a few additional dollars. NN O:v.E of the Grand Old Men of this day is Lord Mount Stephen who last. I week celebrated his 81st birthday. His home is in Hertfordshire,England. His benefactions have been broad-hor- izoned. generous and philanthropic. This gentleman is the son of an hum: ble carpenter of Dufftown, Banffshire, "`CJcot"lair;, a»"'from `a` elie"plier`Tc ""1"ioy," apprenticed, to a dry goods business but at 20 years of age came to Canada where his way was mareellouslee open ed and in the succeeding years great success marked his course. • • Lord Mount Stephen stands high in the esti- mationof both rich and poor in Can- ada, and the Old Land. SOME bluffy stump orators on the recent Borden political excursion cry out "See how theexpenditure has grown since Laurier assumed power, millions more than was spent under Conservative rule," followed by loud applause. Now the bald .statement of increased expenditure does not prove anything and is only clap -trap talkto deceiver the electors. Almost every rade._rs'g `bixswhose• t `.rowin g, has greatly increased his outlay, per- haps the wisest move he ever made owing to the larger revenue and profits accruing. If it can he proven that money has been thrown away that is a horse of another color but surely no sane man expects that the Canada of today can be governed and public affairs managed for the same figure that would do it ten years ago. It is not a question of political parties but a sign of development and growth Sir James Whitney's Government has not kept their output within the com- pass of the late Liberal administration not will we say for a minute that it is possible. It would not be ' fair to ex- pect them todo so and if this is true in the smaller realm it applies with much greater force in' the wider circle with its diversity of : interests. NERVOUS SYSTEMS Always Follows A Run Down Con" dition Of tbe Blood, It is an old story now that nervous people tell of bow the blood becomes poor and thin, and then the nervous symptoms followed. How many really know that thin blood was rerponsible for the nervous • disur. dere ? The nerves get all their nour- ishment from the blood, and as thin blood is deficient in nerve -building. material, the nerves become starved and pain and nervous breakdown is the. result. Dr. Williams' Pink Pills are a tonic for the blood that supply it with the necessary elements to nourish and tope up the. nerves and, tbe cause being removed, nature does the rest and health is fulily restored. Mrs. Hairy Patterson, Dauphin, Man., tells how she was cured of nervous- ness and general debility through the use of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills, She says : -^'A few years ago I was all run down and nervous system a parently all broken up I was weak, tired and nervous all the time. When 1[ got up hi the morning I seemed to be more tired than when I went to bed. I could not walk up an ordin- ary flight of stairs without sitting down panting for , breath, and my nerves trembled, like a leaf. I got so that it was almost impossible to do any housework, and so nervous thatI wanted to cry about every• thing I did. t took several different medicines without the least benefit ; then I read of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills and de, iled to try them. After tatting two boxes I felt a little better and I pot a further supply which I contii uei taki ig for about a month when 1 was as well as ever ; could do all my housework without difficulty, and could walk for a long distance without being all tired out, In view of the wonders Dr. WiLiams' Pink Pills have done for me ' I :sincerely (re- commend .them to all weak, nervous, run-down people." The address of Mr Imrie, editor of printer and Publisher, who has given much thought tothe cost system, as applied to printing offices, was a most' comprehensive review of the slip -shod methods of the past and present con- trasted with the efficiency that might be attained by the new order of sys. tem 9f adopted. The object ot the' meeting was not to boost prices, or to adopt a hard and fast price list ,but to teach printers the need of ascertain ing the cost of the work they were turning out, s0 that the proportion of profit might be fairly allotted. Under the present system of guess work the customer is charged either too much or too little, there being no clear knowledge of the cost of the product. The conference was along educational lines and' most benefical.
