On Tuesday of last week James
Scott, of the firm of Scott Bros., was
married to Mrs Shortreed, of this
town. Rev. F H Larkin performed
the ceremony, which was witnessed
only by the immediate friends and
relatives of the couple. Mr and Mrs
Scott left on the afternoon train for a
ahort wedding trip to the Manitoulin
Islands.
On Tuesday evening last a banquet
was given in Oscar Neil's parlors in
honor of Messrs C N Henry, J A
Roberts and Dr Fisher, who are soon
to tecome benedicts, and W H Robin-
son and J L Yule, who are leaving
town. After a splendid supper, songs
and speeches were indulged in, and- a
very pleasant evening was brought to
a close.
The wedding of two popular young
people of Seatorth was solemnized on
Thursday, when J A Roberts was
married to Miss Lyle Weir, youngest
• daughter or Mr and. Mrs JasWeir. Rev.

Rev. Reuben Millyard, 'apastor of
Victoria Street Methodist Church for
the past three years,went away to con-
ference the other day and was elected
president. Since then his duties have
prevented him from coming hack. A
couple arrived at the parsonage in the
meantime, the lady from Fort Wil-
liam, the gentleman from Glasgow.
Scotland. They had made arrange-
ments to be married by Mr. Millyard.
The minister's son went out to find a

was at the Synod meeting in Lonuon.
The Presbyterian minister died a
short, time ago, and his place has not
yet been filled., Eventually Rev. Dr.
Donga,11, of North Street Methodist
Church, was located, and performed
the ceremony in the home of his bro.

Following the action of the Ontario
West Shore Railway in replacing the
crossing of its line at Dunlop, torn up
by the farmers of Colborne Township,
the township council made applieation
to the Ontario railway and municipal
board to have the crossing removed,
and Messrs A B Ingram, N. N, Kitt -
son and H C Small, secretary, were at
Goderich Saturday to deal with the
matter. The board intimated that the
crossing was in the right place, and
advised that the dispute he settled in
the meantime withholding a formal
decision. A great deal of interest was
I manifested in the investigat ion, resi-
dents of the town and townships
crowding the courtroom to the doors.
, Fifteen of the men who tore up the
track are being criminally prosecuted.

Too LONESOME. — A couple of
weeks ago Mr. J. W. Yeo receiv-
ed a young English immigrant
from the Immigration department,
Toronto, who engaged with him
for the summer. The fellow did
not know much about farming but he
was a willing worker, seemed to like
his job, and Mr. Yeo was just con-
gralutating himself on having his
burdens lightened, , when the young
fellow threw up job, and said he
thought he would go back to the city,
as it was too lonesome for him in the
country. This is unfortunately the
matter with some of the immigrants
coining out. While many of them are
good, sterling workers and Make the
best of help, there are others' who
cannot appreciate a good home when
they•get it, if it happened to be away
from the bust'e and noise of city life.
