During the past two months we have endeavored to furnish the sA fcitizens of Clinton, througe this paper, with conditions in places at A present %inner Local Option, Highest medical testimony against the V of,e of alo0110i, the position at those high in different church circles, i e.•: $ garding Local Option and the workingman's views as expressed by John at m Lennon. Treas. of the . American Federation of Libor and $ otheea. Itihaave tried to place the matter fait•ly befor,- you. have pub. lisned onl t which we believe to ha reliable. We believe the great 'majority of voters knows what Local Option means. 3? any y are yet in ignorance we would stateit removes the license fron the bars A and liquor stores in the community, and up to the pressnt, license' • f : commisioners have not granted club licenses in Lova! Option districts. j $The Government will not permit the brewers and distillerto supp•y malt or spirituous liquors in a Local Option place. It does net pre- vent the person desirous of keeping h for family .use going to the ueigle. •s T a boring town and bi inning home a supply. But the penalty is very severe if any bint is given of its being used publicly. Then a quantity exceeding- two gallons founcl on the premisee would lead te the sup- position it was kept for sale, and would be evidepce of the satire It it is not neeessar y for a sale to be pr oved in such a *ape to complete the i evidence. In a word, it banishes the bar and its, attendant insanity and profanity It stops the, treating system, ,gries the inehritite a it chance to reform, withont having the ever -prevalent fumesof iquor A to tempt him when passing a bar room. It also in thia way protects • $ ✓ the youth of the land by having the temptation withdrawn. Who. would suffer if the bar were abolished ? -Not the man $ . v who says he must have &little ale with his dinner nor the aristocrat who likes to see the decanter on his sideboard. nor the other sort of in- dividual who thinks he requires a night cap. The bar is the result of a the man who is ashamed to dririk at home, 'because his family ktinws I that he should never touch the stuff at all. So he dodges foto the bar a room and rillas elbows with the coatidence titian and the Mallof lower 1 degree as he gulps down that which is literally his poison. The only I financial losers by Local Option in the community would be the:license 4 holders and the bar tenders.
