The New Era, 1882-12-14, Page 7ularDryG.ods NOU CLINTON CLIPPINGS: - CoRRESPONDENCEILONDON ADVERTISER. On the Ransford 400 acre farm, in • conneo- tion with the Stapleton Sa1t Works, there is one field ninety- acres in extent, whin t was d all sewn. with fall wheat of the Seneeca and IScott verities. The threshing occupied a week. The total proceeds amounted to oyer 4;000 bushe]e.. Next year Mr. Ransford con- templates using a steam plow, providing some of the neighboring farni;era join with him an the experiment. Stapleton is about one and a half males from Clinton: and is noted for its splendid-saltwell. Among numerous and leading industries of Clinton stand prominent- ly Doherty's-Organ Factory, giving employ- ment to nearly fifty hands, and turning mut, when bnsy, as many as eighteen instruments in a week, Lately the firm received orders for some large organs to be shipped to Liver- pool. A visit to these extensive works will repay anyone the trouble of the, short and pleasant walk from the centre of the town. 4 The improvement whichhas taken place in the two leadingstreeta'" of Clinton during the past twelve or eighteen months` is truly astonishing. No fewer than forty five fine new buildings, nearly all brick, have lately gone up. Some of the business. blocks on Main street, would clo credit to a large city, and as.for, the interior of two or more of the dry goods es ab-lrshments, there is nothing in the west to surpass them. The large premise es of Oraib, Macwhirter & Co., are worthy of a visit. - The tasty arrangement of the store and departments; the ;Emulsive. plate fronts, the display of chandeliers and mirrors. the style of counters and fixtures and the businese like -appearance-throughout, all'-indicate'that-Clin=' ton is au excellent trade centre, and that its business, men are of the right stamp. Among other large establishments of -which this town can boast are Coats & Son, J..Hodgens, Pay & Wiseman, and others, all carrying large stocks, and doing .a good lively trade. Two new churches are being exteneively talked of for Clinton. One of the Presbyterian body informed the Advertiser roan that a few years ago 'seam -one came along in the county atlas line, and so confineut were the people of Clin. -ton at that time that they were about to re- alize a first-class new and beautiful church, - and that immediately, that a glowing de- scription of the new church Was given for the atlas. In this description the value of the new edifice "war placed 'at, $30,000. -7a-low appears that this stately edifice only exists on. paper, and that the large and influential con- gregation, said to be the largest in the place, Offering at. low `. prices for Holiday LADIES FUR SETS, ' LADIES' FUR CAPS.
