-111111ifit—TownslOgoculttil. Show,
• The annual siow of the above named so-
ciety took place on Monday and Tuesday last
on•the fair grounds in this town. The first
day, as venal, was mostly occupied in getting
exhibits in order in the indoor department,
and giving judgment' thereon. The entries
in most departneents, with the exception of
hones, was rather below the average in point
of numbers, and thia is accounted for by the
fact that farmers are more than usually busy
this season on ace -Mint nig"! late peried they
commenced fall seeding. About everything
that was shdwn was very good, only there
Waft -not enough of it. In hones the exhibi-
tion was far ahead of any previous one,
es-
pecially in heavy draught and general pur-
pose classes. The late importations of Messrs.
McMillan and Mason added very ranch to the
Esuccess of the show and eased great attrac-
tion. All -those -who -entered thoroughbred
cattle, sheep and. pigs deserve great credit as
they were fine animals and inlood condition.
The show of poultry was tolerably good,- but
not in quantity what it ought to be. There'
were several new features in the implement
department, in the shape of a mower knife
grinder, new scufflers and a grain crusher
• with disks instead of it cylinder, and a few
other Datum improvements. 'The' attendance
waa not quite BS large as usual, though fair.
On Tuesday the weather looked threatening
in the morning, but cleared up and was fine
in the afternoon. Mr. A. Taylor exhibited
the model of an improved method of open-
ing farm gates, his own invention, -which 0
tracted considerable notice:
.0ST, a large; well made :Wheelbarrow, painted
drab, and having moveable- sides.- Any. One:hay, •

BARN BURNED. -About six o'clock on
Friday afternoon laet the large barn on
the farm of Mr. Ed. Turner, 3rd comes-
siOn of Tuckeismith, was discovered to be
on fire, and had made such headway that
it was impossible to save it. It appears
that a little girl had' been playing inside
tirsbarn with matches, and set some straw •
on fire;,instead of telling parties who were
in the yard milking what she 'had done, -
and who it is thought might' have been
able to extinguish the flames, she ran to
the hous,e and informed sonic of the in-
mates. The barn, ton which was attached
stables and other outbuildings, contained
a large quantity of fall wheat, oats, hay,
etc./ all of which were lost. It was fortu-
natethat no wind was blowing, or it
would have been imppssible to' have saved
the house. The barn was insured for $2,-
000mbut Mr. Turner's loss will be heavy.
COLBORNE,.
