LAST week 11Ir. W. W. Farrah sold: a
Clear Grit colt to Mr.'s.. Johnston, Strath-
roy, for the sum of $250. He has since
bought Dr, Reeve's sorrel driving mare at
a good figure.
SUNSTROKE. :Miss Sibbon, daughter of
Mr. E. Sibbon, of the Huron road, (Hul-
Jett) . was sunstruck on . Thursday last,
while working outdoors. Under medical
treatment she is recovering.
LAcxossE.---Ozr Monday. the Beaver
lacrosse club, of Seaforth, played the Stars,
here, coming out best men. The first,
second and fourth games were taken by
the Beavers, and the third by the Stars.
CHEAP FAltzs.-During.. this week the
° Grand Trunk will issue tickets to Toron-
to, good until the 16th, at a fare -and -a
third. From the. llth to the 15th 'tickets
will be issued at single fare, good until
the 16th inst.
CRUSHED.—Ort Friday while some men
were working at a culvert on the Grand
Trunk, hear here,one,of. them, named
White, was somewhat_bruised' by a large
stone tumbling over on. him." He was
fortunate in having no bones broken.
FIRE.— On Wednesday afternoon • a
small stable on the lot, occupied by Mr,
Herriott was observed to be on fire, and
would have been entirely destroyed liad
not some of Cooper & McKenzie's. men
went over and put the fire out. r How it
originated is a mystery.
DURING the very severe but short storm
'oil Saturday afternoon, the lightning dam-
aged, more or .less, all the telephones • in
town, burning three. wires and melting
parts of the instruments in the Montreal
telegraph office and in other ways, cutting
up capers on the wires.
THE FITNESS OETIII1Gs.-On Huron
street in this town there.'' is a law-
yer and a doctor's- office, undertaker's
e3tablishment and tombstone manufactory,
all within a few steps of each other. So
that if a roan takes sick; wishes to make
his will, procure his coffin, or order his
headstone, all the essentials' thereto are
close at hand. , It would hardly be fair to
assume that this arrangement of business
was done "with, malice aforethought."
MEssirs. Parsons and Lee, auditors of
the Great Western:Railway, were in town
last lveek, closing rap all the town agen-
cies connected with that road -one of the
results of the,amalgamatien. 'Mr.G.John-1
Mr.G.John-
ston Godericli and W. Jackson, Clinton,
accordingly handed over all the tickets in
their possession, and their offices are
continued. It is anticipatd that all town
agencies conn.eeted-with the Grand Trunk,.
will be likewise discontinued; but orders
to that effect have not yet been issued.

of the Clinton Fall Show, we hope; they
will not only attend in full force, but, also.
that they will make entries in many of the'.
classes for which prizes are offered. Every
one should feel that on their individual

and as cattle are in good condition this
year, and crops of all kinds good, they,
have no valid excuse for not being an•ex-

interested will easily make the show the
best yet held.
DROWNING PIGS.—A very amusing in-
cident occurred at Irwin's pond. one day
last week. Mr. White, of Mitchell, had
taken a drove of 50 pigs to -the station for
shipment, but as they werevery hot; he
was told that he might cool them off by
allowing them to bathe in the pond.
They were accordingly turned loose and
eagerly plunged into the water, where
some of them began to indulge in all sorts
' of. antics. As soon as Mr. White found
. the water was deep, he became alarmed,
and when a jolly porker -would go under
the water or turn up its feet: in the air, he
would shout out " It's drowning, it's
drowning—I'm losing all:My money,"'
andseveral who witnessed the affair were
con vuIsedwith langliter,, :knowi:ng-drat
a pig rarely drowns. If anyone wants to
make Mr. White angry, all they have to
do isto ask him if he won't cool his hogs.
