Considerable irain is just now moving
from this station, Mr, „Irwin shipping to
Nova Scotia, the other dealers to local
'points mainly.
Mr. W. McLeal shipped per G. T. R.,
on Monday, three cars of splendid ,cattle
for the old country. Mr. W. Craig also
-shipped a car for Toronto.
The workmen commenced the erection
of the fbundation for the new G. T. R.
station on Tuesday. It is expected that
the building will be finished about the lst
of„August.. This being the case the cbun-
ell will now require th fix up King street,.
in order to occommodate-the traffic that
will be over it.

dastardly outrage was perpetrated last week
on the unoecapied farm house of Dr.Davidson,
,Baptist Minister, of Tiverton. Some mis-

Goderich District Methodist Church
The regular meeting of the Goderich
district of the Methodist Church was held
here, commencing on Tuesday last, all
the niinisters of the district being present,
and Rev. Dr. Williams in the chair. The
character •of all the ministers was examin-
ed and passed. •
Three young men, Messrs. Jamieson,
Cooke and Harrison, who bed been on
probation for four, •two and one year, were
recommended to be continued as such.

tending the Methodist district meeting
here, had departed for supper, it was dis-

OBITUAltY.—Of late we have been call-
ed nelson to -chronicle the death of quite a
nutffber ofpersons Who have -passed the
allotted "three score years and ten," and
this week anOther name is added' to the
long and fast] increasing list, viz., Mrs. A.
Siteer, mother of Mrs. E. Corbett, of this
town, who peacefully pasee*d away on
Monday last, at the "advanced age of 77
years. Deceased was born at Thorold,
in ,the---e-Minty of Welland,her father being
bne of the most prominent men -in that
section and a II., E. Loyalist. She, with
her husband, (who died last, .Auguet) ye -
„moved to Clinton to reside about three
years ago. .She,has been ailing more or
less for some time past and her death Was
not altogether unexpected. For very
many years' sbe had been a member of
the Methodist church, and_the following
words of the' immortal Wesley are partie
cularey appropriate to her:—

SUICIDE.—Hugh Simpson, a laborer,
aged abutfifty, late of ,Seaforth, drank
an ounce of carbolic acid, at Brandon;
Mani toba, -and died at 7.30 on the morn-
ing of the 17th. Repert,s say that he had -
$230 stolen, from. him, and because des-
pondent. .
