CONSERVATIVE CONVENTION IN
CLINTON.
The annual meeting of the South Hiiron
Liberal Conservative Association, was held in
the Temperance Hall, Clinton, on the 19th
inst., commencing at 11.o'clock representa-•
tivea from every municipality in the riding
being present to the number of over 100. The
Prealident,Mr. D. H. Ritchie,was in the
and addressed the meeting at length, giving
an account of the proceedings of the associa-
tion during the past year, and also an acco4nt
of the general convention held at Toronto Iast•
fall.
The Treasurer submitted his rep.ft, when
it was resolved that Mesrrs. Har. and El-
liott be auditors to examine ace nts apd re-
port thereon.
On motion of Mr. B. V. Uiott, seconded
by Mr. T. Simpson, the f owing gentlemen
were appointed os a co a. maim to report on
the proper seledtio. of a candidate for the
House of Com ' at the next election,
Messrs. Ritchie Racey, Carling, Rollins;
McCurdy, Mil 'Whitely, Elliott, Jackson,
Morrison, riggs; Benson, Petty, Platt and
Porter.,
The eting then adjourned fill 1.30 p.m.,

Mr. Geo. E. Jackson, was spoken of as the
candidate for the Local Legislature. Each
municipality is allowed to send their vice-
president, and three delegates from each poll-
ing division, to attend the next meeting, as
they alone will be entitled to vote for said
candidates.

This was the most enthusiastic meeting
held in South Hur-on, and after the business
was brought tree close, Mr. Porter promised
to give them an address at the next meeting,

Resolved, ,that this meeting heartily en-
dorse the policy pursued by the, government
of Sir. John A. Macdonald,, and have every
confidence in his leadership, believing that
the future prosperity of this young Dominion
depends on its continuance, and pledge
ourselves to use every legitimate means for
the return of our Conservative candidates for
the House of Commons and Legislative A'S
sembly.
• The meeting was brought to a close by giv-
ing three hearty cheers for the .Queen and
Sir. John A. Macdonald.
