A young man named McFarlane, of Grey,
was arrested at London last week, on a charge

It is expected that the Rev. Dr. Wild, of
Toronto, will deliver stile of bis celebrated
lectures in Seaforth about the 7th of next
month.
On Tuesday' night some sneak thief entered
the stables of Mr. L. Myer, .Rarpurhey, -and
stole a set of eilver-platecl harness, which
have been only about a year in nee.

Mr. Andrew Govenlock, of Winthrop,. has
taken the contract of sawing and teaming to
-Seaforth 1,000,000 feet of lumber, chiefly
pine, from Dr. Goninlock.
A man named Donald McDonald, thought
to brefrom Goderioh, and who hes resided in
Saginaw for four years, dissappeared myste-
riously on Friday night, and cannot be -found.
Mr. Andrew Govenlock has purchased of
Dr. Goninlock part of his land, beside the
Northern 'Gravel Road, 7th eon. MeKillop,
consisting of 175 acres, paying for it the sum
of $7,000...

Killop, has' purchased, from Mr. Jas. Camp-
bell, •north part Of lot No. 15, 14th eon. of
McKillop, containing fifty acres, for the sum
of 32,900.
There was registered in Tuckersmith for
the half'year ending 31st Deo., 1881s Births,
36 ; marriages, 5; death'', 19 • four being
under one year ; four over eighty, end one
over ninety years of age, in a population of
3,300. •
Mr. James Johnston has sold his feria in
Culros0 for '$3,000, and purchased the farm
of the late Dr.McMiehael, in the township of
Howick, near Gerrie railway station, for the
sum of $4,000.
The blacksmith and waggon shops occupied
4y. John Jones, in Jamestown, were totally
destroyed by re on Tuesday night. Report
says the fire had reached such a point that
it was impossible to even save the books.
Mr. JohnPatterson, of the Dominion Hotel,
Bluevale, has leased the Royal, on the.Mait-
land Bank, now occupied. by Mr. Conover,
and intends taking possession on the lst of
April.

Since the Wingham- Presbyterian Church
was burned last spring, the Ladies' Aid. So-
ciety of the congregation have succeeded in

Duncan McIntosh has disposed of his in-
terest in the:Brussels woollen factory to his
partner, Mr. Service, who will now'have sole
charge of the same. Mr. McIntosh has had
charge of the null tor over ten years. He in-

Mr. Peter Hawthorne, of liellett, near Sea -
forth, had the fore finger of his left band -bit -I
ten off by a dog a few 'klays ago. He hal

relieving it, when the dog made a bound. at
the lox, and missing it'tiook l'eter's finger.'
On Wednesday evening; at the close of the
regular sprayer meeting, in, Knox church,

ported expressly from' Great Britain, Was pre-
sented to Rev. Dr. Ure and his •associate,
Rev. J. A. Turnbull. B.A., on behalf of the
congregation, by ltev. Chas. Fletcher.

A bad accident occurred at Gorrie, on Tues-
day. A young' teen of the name of Thomas
Clark, while working on the iron trainer, the
track at this place got badly injured by the
crank of the hand' gar striking him on the
shoulder, but it is to be hoped- that it swill
not prove fatal,

County Senior Judgeship. Mr. D. B. Read,
Q.C., of Toronto, has been appointed com-
missioner to take evidence in the case, and
he will open the investigation in the Grand
Jury room, Goderich Court House; on Twin -
day the 24th inst., at 10 o'clock a.m. Mat-
ters which have transpired since the investi-
gation by Mr. /Emelius Irving will be taken
up and considered.--sSignal.
Mr. Wm. Weatherston, proprietor- -of the
woolen mills at Auburn, is about to leave for
Hamilton with the same end in view of car-
rying on the business on a more extensive
scale, having found the facilities around his
present location inadequate for his fast in-
creasiug business. He has occupied for the
pastfew years, in a very:efficent and.masterly
manner, the position of precentor in St. An-
drew's Presbyterian Church, and no doubt
his absence will'bo much noted. The loss to
Blyth will bo a good acquisition to Hamilton.
On the boundary line between Bluevale
and MerriAbank there lives in a neat little
tenement an aged and Wealthy widow named
Mrs. Hannah. On Monday.last she collected
some debts owed her, and when she arrived
home placed the sum of $189.05 between the
matresses of her bed, and retired to rest.
About one o'clock, howevervshe was awaken-
ed by a noise, and was surprised to find two
men in the house. The larger one seized hot -
and held her mouth to prevent her being
heard, w-hilst the other quietly put hiS hand
where the money was ancl took it out.
