SCHOOL ERAM>NATION.—The examina- tion of the pupils attending tichool'Section ,,No. 8, Goderich township, limas held an Friday, 23rd Dee.•' and was quite a gala day, as the' teacher, Miss Minnie Handl: ton, wasleaving the school. The different classes were examined by the teacher, assisted by; Messrs. Higgins'. and Grant, who, expressed themselves; highly pleased withthe manner in -which the children had acquitted themselves.' The trustees also complimented'Mias;Hamilton on the ' pre- sent condition' of;the school and regretted that they had to part with her. Prizes were then distributed among the children, each child receiving a book. ,: In the even- ing -an entertainment was held. The school room was beautifully decorated with ever- greens and mottoes. Mr. Hamilton of Goderich was called to, the chair, who call- ed upon the choir `for ,`the chorus, "Open the door for the Children," Miss S. J. Cox presiding at the organ, followed' "by .Miss Shaw and Messrs.- Gillenham and Shaw, readings by Miss McKenzie and Messrs. Higgins and -Cox, and recitations by' Miss. Welsh and Mr. Myres of Bayfield, all were much appreciated and some of them were very amusing: The readings, and recita- tions were interpersed' with choruses by the choir. Mr.. "Myres appeared awl Santa Claus, to the' great: amusement of the"'chil- dren, and disposed of the beautiful articles which were on the Christmas tree. Miss Welsh and Miss Morgan then .came for- ward _ and, presented the teacher with a valuable silver cake basket'. and napkin ring, accompanied with the followiug`ad- dress which was finely read by Miss Welsh : Astonishing .
